Apartment Review for The Gateway At Tempe - Tempe, AZ

Gateway At Tempe is a slum apartment attempting to look like an upscale student residence. First, do not be suckered into renting here because of their "Display Unit." Their actual apartments typically are filled with heavily worn floors, malfunctioning appliances, and extremely old furniture. Second, Gateway at Tempe staff is willfully oblivious. Our stairwell lights were broken for three months before repaired. They rented me an apartment with a broken air conditioning unit (in August...) and standing sewage in the dishwasher. The sink and disposal were both broken when I moved in. Their staff took 4 days to fix the AC and I ended up repairing everything else at my expense after nothing was done for 20 days (and after repeated assurances that "something" was going to be done about it). The place is not safe, a random person I do not know keyed my car in the lot. My neighbors were neighbors from hell and had loud parties until 4 AM most weekends. The walls are paper thin so you hear everything going on outside. Our building has rats in the walls (you can hear them). Another great feature about Gateway is the AC. They put the air conditioning units on one side of the building at ground level. The result - if you have a 3rd floor apartment or a room on the other side of the building, you will need to blast your AC 24/7 just to maintain a reasonable temperature in your room (get ready for a $100+ AC bill for a studio). They claim to have "1 bedroom" apartments, they are not one bedroom, they are studio apartments with a small divider and no door. They are wildly overpriced for the area, you can get similar apartments for about $500-600 and often will have utilities included. They employ armed guards, who do nothing. They watched while my neighbors smoked pot and pissed off the balcony onto the stairwell. If you like overpaying for unresponsive customer service, dated spaces, and obnoxious neighbors, Gateway at Tempe is just for you!
