Apartment Review for Lakefront At West Bay - Tempe, AZ

When we moved in, we were pleased with the apartments and the staff were friendly, if rather clueless. This has all changed. The initial appearance of the apartments does not hold up. The carpet is cheap and impossible to clean (believe me, we tried!!! and ours only has normal wear and tear), the cupboards and drawers fall apart with normal wear, the plumbing backs up regularly, the fireplace won't work despite repeated visits from maintenance, and the windows might as well be missing entirely for all they do (rather, DON'T do) to protect from the elements. The apartments appear to be well constructed, and I never hear my neighbors next door...but I have to listen to EVERY SINGLE THING the people upstairs do, and they are loud! I have reported them twice for parties past 11pm on school nights, but have seen no change.

The grounds are even worse! You can't walk anywhere in the complex without being assaulted by disgusting odors. The courtyards always smell like dog urine and every single grassy area is always littered with dog poop. The manager herself doesn't clean up after her dog. When you're not smelling dog messes, the smell of dead fish from the uncleaned fountains and "streams" is just as bad. The dumpsters are open and are right in front of the entrances/elevators, so everyone has to smell them daily. In addition, there is an extra large construction-type dumpster at the end of building 2 that is infrequently emptied and attracts bugs. The elevators are in operation only about 2/3 of the time, and they usually smell of dog urine.

Worst of all is the staff! As I said, they were friendly when we moved in, but that is no longer the case. First, the office is frequently closed during its posted "open" hours. When it is open, getting past the manager's pitbull of an assistant is nearly impossible. The accountant literally can't manage simple mathematics (I've recieved notices of incorrect payment amounts 3 times in 6 months that I proved were wrong) AND she barely speaks english. I have seen residents being cussed at and harassed, though it has never happened to me. The only nice thing that I can say about the manager is that she's very pretty. Completely incompetent, but very pretty. There is such a high turn-over rate in the maintenance staff that I never see the same people in that position for more than a month.

In all, this is not a place for families or discerning renters. If you're looking for a place to party and don't care about quality, I'm willing to bet you could find something less outrageously over-priced. Just DON'T RENT HERE!!!
