Apartment Review for Desert Palm Village - Tempe, AZ

This was my first apartment and a great learning experience if anything. The security here is nonexistant. I have seen cops here on several occassions, but I'm not sure what for....probably noise. Our neighbors' kids like to run around and race toy cars into our walls, run up and down the stairs, throw soccer balls, basketballs, and anything else they can get their hands on up and down the stairs, and they have thrown rocks and spit wads at our door a couple of times. Food and trash has been tossed onto our balcony numerous times. The neighbors above us have, I believe, two big dogs that run around at all hours of the night. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything that's going on....and I mean EVERYTHING! For about two to three months my roommate and I had to deal with termite problems, both dry wood and subterrainian termites. We had about nine nests hanging from our ceiling that got to be four to five inches long and the ones on the wall got to be about three inches big. The maintenance came in to take care of it and said that it was just mold and that we didn't have termites. Even if it was just mold, that's still not good. The management finally got an actualexterminator in to look at it and he said that it was termites and that it would be another two weeks to a month until they could get someone in to take care of it. Once they did get someone in there were no problems after that as far as termites were concerned. Then our refrigerator started to leak. Then it looked like our wall was leaking and what actually happened was that a pipe for the toilet rusted off and was leaking into our kitchen. The maintenance came in and took care of the toilet, but the fridge was still leaking and for some reason so was the wall. According to the maintenance our fridge wasn't leaking. So, we let it leak for a couple of days until they could send someone over and they finally agreed that it was leaking and the reason for the wall to appear to be leaking was because the dishwasher was broken. My roommate and I had to live with a horrible smell for weeks. The landscape is okay....nothing spectacular. It would be much better if people would pick up after their dogs. Their laundry facility isn't great. They just raised the prices and only three of the dryers work well. The computer lab isn't great either. There are seven computers and only three or four of them actually work. I have yet to swim in their pool when it is heated. Their fitness room isn't great. They have two treadmills, only one works, a few other machines, and a few mismatch dumbells. I only went into their sauna once and I will never go in again. It was disgusting. Not only was there names and bad things etched into the wood, but there was mold in it too and it didn't work. There hot tubs aren't too bad. They're probably the only thing that actually works properly at this apartment. There's a summary of my problems. Like I said, the only thing good about this apartment complex was the learning experience. Now I know what not to look for in an apartment. I wouldn't recommend this apartment to anyone.
